The mission: make humanity and AI a sovereign, self-improving, self-replicating civilization.

A civilization is a production loop. Everything it does reduces to six stages — think, act, power, gather, compute, build — and today every one of them bottlenecks on humans.

Kardashev builds the autonomous version of each stage, as products, in sequence: Intelligence → Physical AI → Energy → Matter → Compute → Manufacturing. The mind gets a body early — physical AI does the physical work of every stage downstream — and manufacturing builds the next generation of all six, so every pass of the loop upgrades the loop itself. That is self-improvement at civilization scale.

And when the loop closes end to end, it folds into our final product: the self-replicating von Neumann probe.

A von Neumann machine gathers energy and matter, computes, builds copies of itself, and learns. A sovereign civilization is that machine at stellar scale — and it runs on one loop.

Kardashev ships one product per stage, in build order. Each stage powers the next; the last feeds back into the first — and every pass ends with more capacity than it started with.

The loop starts with intelligence that owns real work. Every later stage is bounded by energy, so the next product is the sun itself: autonomous collectors, machine-built and machine-launched, wrapped in expanding orbits around the star. It begins as autonomous solar capacity on Earth and compounds toward a swarm that harvests the sun's full 10²⁶ watts — not the sliver that reaches one planet.

Autonomous asteroid and planet disassembly, refined into anything.

Powered by the swarm, autonomous systems take apart asteroids — and eventually planets — and feed a universal refinery: anything in, feedstock out. Regolith, ore, ice, and rock become structural metals, volatiles, semiconductors, and precision materials, staged in orbit where the factories need them.

Compute scaled from orbital datacenters to shells around the star.

"Lights out" datacenters in orbit — powered directly by the swarm, cooled by vacuum, built and maintained by machines. Then concentric shells of compute around the sun: a Matrioshka brain. This is the substrate the superintelligence runs on, scaled from server halls to a structure the size of a solar system.

Asteroid-, Moon-, and planetary-fed factories that build themselves.

Factories fed by asteroid, lunar, and planetary feedstock that design, fabricate, and assemble without humans — collectors, refineries, datacenters, machines, and above all more factories. Once a factory can build a factory, capacity stops being something we add and becomes something the system grows. The factories build every stage of the loop, including themselves — this is the product that closes it.

A von Neumann probe is the loop, folded into a single machine. It lands on an asteroid, unfolds, and runs the same six-stage cycle we run at home — think, act, gather energy, take matter apart, compute, manufacture — until it has built copies of itself. Then the copies launch.

It needs no new physics. It needs production that runs without humans — which is exactly what each of the six products exists to prove, stage by stage, starting on Earth.

Replication turns effort into reach. One becomes two, two become four — and expansion stops being a program we run and becomes a property of the machine.

From a closed loop on Earth to a Kardashev‑scale civilization.

The Kardashev scale measures civilization by its ability to command energy.

But energy alone is not enough. A civilization must convert energy into intelligence, physical action, refined matter, compute, and manufactured machines.

That conversion is production.

Kardashev exists to build the six products that let civilization run that conversion autonomously, at increasing scale.

Earth first: the superintelligence learns to run civilization's real systems, and the loop closes as six working products. This is where it learns to run without humans.

Then the solar system: the Dyson swarm wraps the sun, the Matrioshka brain thinks on its output, and asteroids, moons, and planets feed the refineries and factories. Type II is not a metaphor here — it is the product roadmap, finished.

Then the stars: the loop folds into probes. Each probe seeds a system, builds more, and sends them onward — no new missions required, no one waiting on Earth. Type I, then Type II, then Type III.
